The Commission will be meeting  July 27updated-29, to consider district numbering and deferral issues and other commission business. The meetings will be streamed live online and the public will be able to access visualizations on the proposed districts that the Commission will be discussing.

Come by and share what your local League is doing or has done to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of California women having the right to vote. Bring pictures! If your League has not yet done anything come along to learn about what other Leagues have done or are planning to get ideas for your own celebration. There is much to celebrate and to be proud of over the last 100 years.  October 10 will mark exactly 100 years since the 1911 election. There is still time to plan a very special event.

 OBSERVE and REPORT on the activities California's first Citizens Redistricting Commission.

The Citizens Redistricting Commission will hold public input meetings from April 27 - May 1, 2011 in Region IV. Meetings will be held in Long Beach April 27, 6-9 pm, downtown Los Angeles April 28, 6-9 pm, San Gabriel April 29, 6-9 pm, San Fernando Valley April 30, 2-5 pm, and in Lancaster May 1, 2-5 pm. Refer to the meeting notices, posted in additional materials, for locations and information on giving testimony before the commission.

The Commission is taking testimony from local area residents before drawing its first round of draft maps which will be released in June. Final district maps must be certified by the Commission and presented to the Secretary of State by August 15, 2011.

 

The Commission will hold a public input meeting in Marysville, April 10, from 2:00 -5:00 pm. The Commission was created by California voters to draw state Congressional, Assembly, Senate and Board of Equalization Districts.

The new voter-approved Citizens Redistricting Commission will draw the new political boundaries in California in 2011. The commission will draw the lines for California congressional districts, state senate and assembly and the Board of Equalization.

How the lines are drawn will determine whether communities have a fair opportunity to elect the candidates of their choice in state legislative, Board of Equalization, and congressional elections.

Just sign up for the webinar training to learn how to observe and report on meetings across the state and tips on how to follow local and or state media coverage about redistricting.

The first eight members of the Citizens Redistricting Commission will reconvene on December 15, 10:30 a.m. to complete the selection process for the 14 member commission. The selection process prescribed by the Voters FIRST Act requires that the first randomly selected eight members of the commission select the final six members by December 31,2010.

The State Auditor will hold a random drawing for the first eight members of the Citizens Redistricting Commission. Members will be drawn from the 3 sub-pools of applicants; three Republicans, three Democrats and two that are either Decline-to-State or belong to another party.

The meeting will be streamed live over the internet at We Draw the Lines.

By December 31, 2010, the eight seated commissioners will choose 6 from the remaining applicants.

This is a public forum for the candidates running for the Escondido Union School District Board. The Escondido LWV has been asked to moderate this event by the Escondido Council of PTA's, who is hosting the forum. LWV Education Director, Vivian Doering, will moderate the forum and it will be conducted according to the guidelines of the League of Women Voters who will also time and screen questions from the audience. The format for this forum will include a two-minute opening statement, one minute for each candidate to answer each question, and a three-minute closing statement. Candidates will be seated by draw and will make their opening statements in sequence. Candidates will make closing statements in reverse sequence.
