A Celebration of Women's Rights

In 1975, the United Nations celebrated its inaugural International Women's Day. Each year's celebration has a unique theme. The 2019 theme was "Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change."

International Women's Day had its beginnings in the socialist and communist movements in recognition of working women. The first observation was in 1909.
