Celebrate the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S.Constitution that gave women the right to vote in the United States.

Women’s right to vote was affirmed with the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Since 1972, this anniversary has been celebrated by Congressional Resolution as Women’s Equality Day.  Women’s Equality Day recognizes this historic anniversary and women’s continuing efforts toward full equality.

The community is invited to dedicate a plaque in honor of the woman who built the Queenie Warden bridge in 1927. The dedication will take place in Mission Plaza on Friday, August 24 at noon.Following the ceremony, Secret SLO will offer a free walking tour on women's history in the downtown area, highlighting Warden's career, Susan B. Anthony's 1896 visit here to campaign for equal rights, and the San Luis Obispo women who led local and national movements.

Santa Barbara Women's Political Committee will host a community screening of the award-winning documentary film Little Stones, which follows Brazilian graffiti artist Panmela Castro, Senegalese rap-singer Sister Fa, Indian dance therapist Sohini Chakraborty, and fashion designer Anna Taylor as they use their art to combat violence against women and to empower women and girls globally.
